Strengthening Gender-sensitive Migration Management

Koi-Tash – IOM conducted a comprehensive two-day training for The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic’s staff focused on the rules and nuances of notarial actions, as well as critical issues related to migration and gender. This event took place on December 7-8, 2024, and was made possible with the generous support from the Norwegian agency for development cooperation (NORAD).

The primary objective of the training was to enhance the knowledge and skills of participants regarding notarial actions, with a particular emphasis on the legal and procedural aspects of documentation for migrants. In addition to the technical aspects of notarial actions, the training also addressed broader issues related to migration policies, safe migration practices, and the vulnerabilities faced by migrants. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on the challenges and opportunities associated with migration in the Kyrgyz Republic, exploring strategies for reducing the risks of exploitation and human trafficking.

A significant portion of the seminar was dedicated to the gender aspects of migration and human rights. Experts from the IOM and other organizations provided insights into the specific faced by women migrants, including gender-based violence and discrimination. The training emphasized the importance of adopting a gender-sensitive approach to migration management and ensuring that the rights of all migrants, regardless of gender, are upheld and protected. To wrap up the training, a summary of the key outcomes and recommendations was presented, highlighting the importance of continued collaboration between government agencies, notaries, and organizations like the IOM in addressing the complex issues related to migration and gender.

Overall, the training seminar was a resounding success, providing participants with valuable knowledge and practical skills that they can apply in their professional roles. The collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and the IOM Mission in the Kyrgyz Republic exemplifies the commitment of both organizations to promoting safe and orderly migration and protecting the rights of all migrants.
