IOM trained the Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Migration’s southern district departments on safe migration and gender mainstreaming
Jalal-Abad and Osh - The Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Migration (MLSSM) of the Kyrgyz Republic, together with the International Organization for Migration (IOM)/UN Agency for Migration is conducting a two-day training on migration and gender mainstreaming for representatives of the southern district departments of the MLSSM on 11-14 July, 2023. Similar training will be conducted for representatives of the northern district departments of the MLSSM on 18-21 October, 2023.
The training is in line with the Concept of the Migration Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic until 2030 and the Action Plan for the period of 2022-2025, which stipulates increasing the knowledge of the staff of MLSSM on migration and gender mainstreaming as one of the capacity building priorities.
The training will provide sessions on migration policy, safe migration, vulnerability of migrants and prevention of human trafficking, with a special focus on gender and human rights.
The expected outcomes of the training will be the improved quality of services provided by the staff of the district departments of the MLSSM, increased awareness on safe migration, and increased participation of women migrants in local development.
The training is organized within the IOM projects “Protection of vulnerable migrants with special emphasis on empowering women in the context of migration in Central Asia”, funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and “Labour Migration Programme in Central Asia” funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
