IOM trains Government officials and academia partners on migration issues in Kyrgyzstan

Ala-Archa – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is conducting a training course on how to protect international students and migrants in Kyrgyzstan in a gender-sensitive way for two days, from 12 to 13 March 2024. The course aims to help Government officials understand how international migration can contribute to sustainable development in the country and to provide them with information on the patterns of international migration.

The training and technical support will ensure gender sensitivity and a rights-based approach through designing specific modules on human rights, gender considerations, promoting gender mainstreaming in providing protection services.

Migration is a complex issue worldwide and it requires a deep and cooperative approach. Therefore, these interactions with migration actors are essential for achieving a more efficient and comprehensive migration management that respects the rights of migrants and benefits host communities and all other parties involved.

The training will explore how different factors affect migration, and how to develop a comprehensive view on migration that is grounded in the principles of cooperation among government and society, the role of partnerships, and policies based on facts.

“This training is a result of many years of productive and cooperative work between the Government of Kyrgyzstan and the International Organization for Migration and represents a unique opportunity to consolidate and further strengthen that partnership,” – said Mr. Zeynal Hajiyev, IOM Kyrgyzstan’s Chief of Mission.

The training will provide a chance to explore important topics, such as core migration concepts, international migration law, human rights, labor rights, gender-related issues in migration, and other pertinent matters.

IOM Kyrgyzstan is pleased to welcome participants from different backgrounds for this training, which seeks to enhance the migration management in Kyrgyzstan and other regions.

This training is made possible thanks to the financial support of the IOM Development Fund and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
