Empowering returned migrant women in Kyrgyzstan
Osh- On 12 December, IOM together with the Ministry of Labour, Social Protection and Migration of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Skills Development Fund train 70 selected returned migrant women as part of the regional project, Protection of vulnerable migrants with special emphasis on empowering women in the context of migration in Central Asia.
Heads of regional administrations and employment departments of Leilek and Batken districts of Batken oblast, Nookat and Alai districts of Osh oblast and Jalal-Abad city of Jalalabad oblast took part in this workshop.
One of the planned results of IOM’s regional project, supported by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is to extend the rights of women to participate in the labour market. To achieve this outcome, IOM plans to support vulnerable returned migrant women in pursuing technical and vocational education to enhance their skills and support access to the local labour market. By improving the vocational skills and employability of vulnerable returned migrant women, it is expected to directly contribute to increasing their economic independence and empowering women at the social and psychosocial level, as well.
